A summer holiday in East Tyrol

A summer retreat between the Lienz Dolomites and Carnic Alps

The sunny village of Obertilliach, Tyrol is the perfect destination for a family summer holiday. The fresh mountain air and the salubrious landscape with its countless wildflower meadows and clear mountain lakes promise rest and recreation. There is a lot to discover in the diverse region around Obertilliach and it offers many opportunities for walking holidays. Hiking trails with varying degrees of difficulty lead from the valley to the peaks of the Gailtal. Especially younger children will enjoy a ride on the ten-seat Golzentipp cable car above the sunny slopes of the mountain.

Carefree holidays with children

Here on the Golzentipp you will find the Gailtal Ridgeway with its broad sometimes even paved walking trails - perfect for taking a walk with a pushchair. If you’d rather enjoy something a bit more challenging, why not take the Carnic Ridgeway which takes you from Obertilliach to the border between South Tyrol and Italy. During your hike you will sometimes come across remnants from the dark days of World War I. Even families skilled at mountaineering will find athletically challenging via ferratas in the region of Obertilliach.

Additional summer activities in the valley of Hochpustertal include:

  • mountain biking in the valley, up the the Porzehütte hut or to the mountain pastures of the ConnyAlm
  • the “Ostirodler” summer toboggan run in Lienz
  • the via ferrata “Millnatzenklamm” in the valley of Lesachtal
